These mini grilled cheese sandwiches on sweet Hawaiian rolls offer a quick, easy, and delicious snack with a perfect balance of melty cheese and buttery toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mini Hawaiian rolls, split horizontally
  • 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese or a blend of cheddar and mozzarella
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping them attached if in a connected pack.
  3. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and Dijon mustard (if using). Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread the butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the rolls.
  5. Layer the shredded cheese onto the bottom halves of the rolls evenly.
  6. Close the rolls with the top halves and place them in an oven-safe baking dish or on a sheet pan.
  7. Bake uncovered for 12–15 minutes until cheese melts and tops are golden but not burnt.
  8. Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for a golden bubbly finish, watching closely.
  9. Remove from oven and let rest for 2 minutes before slicing into individual sandwiches.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Use softened butter for even spreading. Watch oven closely to avoid burning. Optional broil step adds a golden finish. Freezing rolls for 10 minutes before slicing helps keep layers neat. Customize with different cheeses or add meats for variation. Reheat in oven or toaster oven to avoid soggy bread.
