A cozy, easy 5-ingredient dinner featuring tender baked chicken coated in a creamy ranch sauce and topped with melted cheddar cheese and fresh green onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 cup (8 fl oz) full-fat sour cream
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 23 green onions, thinly sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream with the entire packet of ranch seasoning mix. Stir until smooth. Add 1-2 tablespoons milk or water if a thinner sauce is desired.
  4. Place the chicken breasts in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spoon the ranch sauce evenly over each piece, coating well.
  5. Sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the coated chicken breasts.
  6. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes until chicken is cooked through and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. In the last 5 minutes of baking, sprinkle sliced green onions on top.
  8. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute.

Notes

Pound chicken breasts to even thickness for consistent cooking. Use full-fat sour cream for best creaminess. Cover with foil if cheese browns too quickly. Rest chicken after baking to keep it juicy. Can add veggies or bacon bits for variation. Refrigerate leftovers up to 3 days or freeze up to 2 months.
